Chainsaw Man was the biggest anime produced by studio MAPPA in 2022, but it was very evident that this adaptation failed to win over all fans of Tatsuki Fujimoto . Although many people question the anime, Manabu Otsuka , the CEO of MAPPA, confirms that the first season of Chainsaw Man was a success.

According to Weekly Toyo Keizai , the CEO says that the studio invested a lot in adapting Chainsaw Man and what its profits were in return. He says Blu-ray sales weren't that good, but the anime generated a lot of attention for studio MAPPA.

“We had never attracted so much public attention before releasing a work into the world. We are a young company, so we struggle to deal with this pressure and perform at our best. It was a good learning experience for me to experience detailed rights procedures, licensing, product planning and other tasks that were conventionally handled by the production committee.

Some series sell many DVD and Blu-ray packages, while others are distributed to a large number of (streaming) viewers. Honestly, I wish this series had reached the audience that pays for the packages. We look forward to exploring how to address the target audience that will pay for the work.”

Synopsis:

The story takes place in a world where demons are born from human fears. Although they are generally dangerous and malevolent, humans can form contracts with demons to use a portion of their power. Denji is a depressed young man who is trying to pay off his late father's debt to the yakuza by selling several of his organs and working as a demon hunter. But Denji also has a dog-like demon named Pochita, who resembles a chainsaw and assists Denji in his work.

Therefore Fujimoto launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2018, finishing the first arc in December 2020 with 11 volumes.
