Come check out some recommendations for cliché romance manga! We tend to think of the word cliché as a negative, but that's not always the case; that's why I'm sharing some excellent works for you to read! And remember, if you know of any other works, be sure to leave them in the comments so everyone can see them.
Cliché Romance Manga
Kaichou Wa Maid-sama: The poor girl and the rich boy. Many manga have this same old premise, but few manage to do what Kaichou Wa Maid-sama did.
Ayuzawa Misaki is the student council president at Seika High School, a formerly all-boys school that's now co-ed. In other words, almost all of the students are boys. To protect the girls, she fights with the boys every day. On the other hand, she secretly works at a café. What will happen when the most popular boy in her school, Usui Takumi, discovers her secret?
The manga, despite its story seeming simple, is quite the opposite, using an old romance cliché to create an extremely fun and captivating story, with a main character that makes anyone take their hat off.
Will you marry me again if you are reborn?: You will love me in the next life. A classic romance phrase, but I've never seen it applied so well as in "Will you marry me again if you are reborn?"
Toranosuke fell in love with his servant, Kaoru. Over twenty years, they slowly developed a love for each other, thus creating a Showa couple of clumsy husband and muscular wife. They spend a lot of time together and begin to talk nostalgically in Toranosuke's hospital room. These are fond memories of a husband and wife deeply in love.
The manga, at first glance, seems extremely cliché, and I can't deny that, but trust me when I say that it's not a bad thing, especially here. The situations the couple experiences are extremely cliché and predictable, yet you can't help but feel moved.
Lesser-Known Cliché Romance Manga
Honto Yajuu
The cop and the Yakuza. We have so many Romeo and Juliet-style works, yet I've never read anything as good as Honto Yajuu.
Ueda Tomoharu is a police officer at a local koban station. He's quite happy with his job and relatively peaceful life, until everything changes when he runs into a yakuza member: Gotouda Aki, while Ueda is chasing an underwear thief... And suddenly he receives a confession! Aki doesn't seem the least bit bothered by their careers and quickly falls into a lovey-dovey with the police officer; but Ueda is about to discover just how dangerous dating a gangster is... in more ways than one!
The Romeo and Juliet cliché here is very well constructed, the characters, even though they are naturally enemies, manage to fall in love and unlike William Shakespeare's dramatic work, here the comedy stands out, giving charm to the work.
Kimi Ni Todoke
The weird girl and the popular boy. We've read so many manga with this protagonist description, yet few manage to captivate, which is the case with Kimi Ni Todoke.
Sawako Kuronuma, nicknamed Sadako by her classmates because of her resemblance to a horror movie character, has always been feared and misunderstood because of her appearance; rumors at school say she can see ghosts and curse people. When her idol, the popular Kazehaya, starts talking to her, everything changes. Eventually, she and Kazehaya slowly fall in love, while overcoming numerous obstacles in their paths.
The cliché here is very well used to serve as a basis for the characters to overcome, which I can say makes the manga much more interesting and enjoyable to read.
