A recent 2026 survey has raised concerns within the otaku community by revealing data about relationships. According to the study, collecting figurines and watching anime are at the top of the list of least appealing hobbies for female viewers.

The analysis, which surveyed over 800 people about 74 activities, indicated that collecting figurines has an 80% disapproval rating. Meanwhile, frequent consumption of Japanese animation (such as that from Studio MAPPA or Toei Animation) reaches a 76% disapproval rating. Therefore, this behavior is seen as socially isolating for those seeking partners with practical or creative skills.

Activities such as cooking, woodworking, and reading received approval ratings close to 98%. The study reinforces that moderation is the determining factor for social success. Therefore, keeping a bookshelf full of waifus can be interpreted as a "red flag," unless both share the same niche. However, casual interest in popular works doesn't condemn anyone to eternal spinsterhood.
