Subscribers eligible to file a complaint are residents of the United States who were users of any Crunchyroll website or platform between September 8, 2020, and September 23, 2023. Therefore, the platform has released a procedure for those affected to submit their complaints online. However, subscribers only have until December 12th to submit a claim.
Originally, the lawsuit began in September 2022 demanding answers from the parent company, Sony Corporation . Furthermore, McClatchy News contacted the company on October 10th to request a response to this lawsuit, but is still awaiting a reply.
Those who submit valid complaints may receive compensation for having their data exposed, earning $30. However, the platform's website states that this amount may vary based on the number of complaints registered. According to the administrators' notice, the final hearing will be on Tuesday, December 19th, to approve the terms of the agreement. Once approved, qualified Crunchyroll users will receive their payments 90 days after the case is resolved.
