The Hashiras are considered the greatest Oni hunters, the group being made up of nine members and to become one, the candidate must now have killed fifty Oni, or one of the strongest Oni belonging to the Twelve Kizuki, that is, commanded directly by the king of the Oni.
Each of the Hashiras has authority over a certain region, protecting the humans living in these regions and observing any Oni activity in their lands.

The story's protagonist brothers likely come from a powerful lineage of sword wielders, as in the manga, we see Ninjiro dream of his ancestor, Sumiyoshi, and the two even share strikingly similar features. Some even speculate that their family is linked to the first user of sun breath, which would explain why Nezuko is such a unique Oni.
The bond between brothers:
This fact may seem obvious, but Nezuko and Tanjiro share an immeasurable brotherly bond. In the first episode, Nezuko protects Tanjiro, which is completely unexpected, as Oni are known to feed on their own family.
Tanjiro, in turn, demonstrates on several occasions his ultimate devotion and love for his younger sister, both in actions and in small things like carrying her everywhere while she sleeps in her box.
