The horror anime Dark Gathering will officially return with its second season , taking the protagonists to a new and terrifying setting: Kyoto , where even more dangerous spirits await. The announcement came with a teaser visual and enthusiastic comments from author Kenichi Kondō and director Hiroshi Ikehata .

Based on the manga published in Jump SQ (Shueisha), Dark Gathering follows Keitarō Gentōga , a university student with spiritual sensitivity, and the enigmatic Yayoi Hōzuki , a girl with supernatural abilities. The plot mixes horror and mystery in a narrative that has already sold over 2.5 million copies of the manga. The anime premiered its first season between July and December 2023 .
In the new phase, the OLM returns to production, with Hiroshi Ikehata once again directing. The main cast is also confirmed: Yū Shinohara (Yayoi Hōzuki), Nobunaga Shimazaki (Keitarō Gentōga), Kana Hanazawa (Eiko Hōzuki) and Rina Kawaguchi (Aii Kamishiro).
According to Kondō, the Kyoto arc was one of the most intense to write: " It was so heavy that I barely remember how I managed to finish it," he joked . The director stated that this is a "true second season," made possible thanks to the support of the fans, promising "an even deeper and more visually impactful horror."
