According to the website Cinepop, Netflix has acquired the Hollywood adaptation of Death Note after months of negotiations. The project was being developed by Warner Bros., which agreed to sell it to Netflix in exchange for a multimillion-dollar payment.
The Netflix film will be based on the first three volumes of Death Note, which were published in Brazil by JBC. Nat Wolff ('The Fault in Our Stars') will star as Light Yagami, and the talented Margaret Qualley, from The Leftovers, has also been confirmed in the cast.
Adam Wingard, director of horror films such as 'The Guest' and 'You're Next', was chosen to helm the adaptation. The project previously had filmmakers like Gus Van Sant (Milk, Good Will Hunting) and Shane Black (Iron Man) associated with it.
