Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Castle Infinite has just achieved an impressive feat. The film has surpassed the US$70 million at the box office in the United States alone, breaking a record that had stood for 26 years. Until then, the title belonged to Pokémon: The First Movie (1999), which had grossed US$31 million in its opening weekend — a figure that, adjusted for inflation, would be equivalent to approximately US$60 million in 2025.

With this, the ufotable not only set a new benchmark for anime in American cinema, but also has Sunday's final numbers to further solidify the achievement.

Global success of Infinite Castle

Worldwide, Infinite Castle has already grossed over US$386 million. It's only a matter of time before it surpasses the total box office of Mugen Train, which closed at US$504 million and became a global phenomenon in 2020.

And the year promises even more for anime fans in theaters. Among the upcoming releases are:

  • Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, from Sony Pictures Releasing and Crunchyroll.
  • Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, by GKIDS, is showing the first two episodes of the highly anticipated 3rd season of Jujutsu Kaisen.

The final battle

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, the film adapts the Infinite Castle, where Muzan Kibutsuji appears at the Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters, initiating the final confrontation against the Hashira and Tanjiro. The location of the final battle is revealed: the mysterious and terrifying Infinite Castle.
