Akira Toriyama spoke a bit about the new film, saying that he designed Broly himself, even though he had forgotten the details of his story. He realized the character was still popular in Japan and other countries, and soon after, at the suggestion of his supervisors, they decided to make a film. Akira will also be adding new things to Broly, and of course, he said that the film will not only show impressive battles but also what fate awaits Goku, Vegeta, and Broly when they meet, and even what happens to Frieza. The author also promised that the film will have a dramatic and grand story.

Thus, with this official revelation, Broly officially becomes canon in the anime.

The Dragon Ball Super movie takes place after the events of the Tournament of Power. According to Akira Toriyama, who is writing the story, the film will reveal previously unseen details about the history of the Saiyans and Frieza.
