Kyouko Hikawa 's manga From Far Away ( Kanata Kara ) will receive an anime adaptation in 2026. The announcement came alongside the opening of an official website and marks the 35th anniversary of the work, originally published in Japan.

The anime will be directed by Noriyuki Abe, known for works such as Bleach and Great Teacher Onizuka. In addition, the author also released a special illustration to celebrate the news, reinforcing the title's importance among the classics of the shoujo genre.

Synopsis

The story follows Noriko, a student who is transported to an unknown world after a mysterious event. In this new setting, she meets Izark, a skilled young man who protects her. However, he possesses a dangerous power linked to an ancient prophecy. Gradually, they both face threats as they try to understand their roles in this universe.

Publication and legacy of the work

From Far Away is a fantasy manga written and illustrated by Kyouko Hikawa, published in LaLa magazine between 1991 and 2002. The work was completed in 14 collected volumes by Hakusensha in 2003. Later, a special bunko edition was published between 2004 and 2005. Outside of Japan, the manga was released in English by Viz Media.
