The release of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc in 2025 reignited one of the fandom's most poignant pains. An old statement by Tatsuki Fujimoto , taken from promotional material from 2020, resurfaced and confirmed something important: the suffering involving Denji and Reze was never accidental.

At the time of the collected volume of the Bomb Girl arc, Fujimoto explained his vision for romance in shonen manga. According to him, stories that don't end well leave deeper scars. Therefore, the definitive separation between Denji and Reze was conceived as a central part of the narrative. The author wanted this feeling to remain as an "emotional curse" for the reader.

Furthermore, Fujimoto admitted that he prefers unresolved desires to predictable happy endings. This approach, inspired by melancholic films like Jin-Roh , reinforces the raw tone of Chainsaw Man .

However, the most curious thing came later. Upon watching the film version produced by MAPPA , the author himself confessed to feeling shaken. He revealed that he couldn't sleep, imagining a different ending for the couple. His editor had to remind him, in a humorous way, that that pain was his own choice.

Ultimately, fan reaction remains divided. While many grieve Reze's fate, others acknowledge that this tragic romance elevated the impact of the work. In this way, the character remains alive in the public's memory, exactly as Fujimoto intended.
