Developer HoYoverse has finally fulfilled a long-standing request from Android users: support for physical controllers in Genshin Impact. The feature arrived with update 5.5, released this week, and is now available for all devices compatible with the game.

The new feature allows for the connection of wireless joysticks from Xbox and PlayStation consoles, offering more precise controls and an experience similar to that of consoles and PCs. For years, players on the platform were frustrated by the absence of this function and had to rely solely on virtual on-screen controls.

Support has been available for quite some time on iOS systems and in the PC versions. Now, with the new version of the game, Android will have the same level of accessibility. This makes the title even more appealing to those who prefer long gaming sessions with physical controls.

Compatibility depends on the controller model and Android version

HoYoverse has enabled support, but made it clear that compatibility between controllers and Android devices depends on the operating system version. Xbox wireless controllers require at least Android 9.0 to function correctly. The Xbox Elite Series 2 wireless controller also requires the same operating system level. In the case of Sony, the DualShock 4 wireless controller needs Android 10 or higher.

The PlayStation 5's DualSense controller only works on devices running Android 12 or later. It's important to note that official support only covers wireless connections, which surprises some users. However, the developer hasn't specified whether wired controllers will be compatible in the future, leaving users to test their own connections.

Update 5.5 brings new characters, events, and unprecedented challenges

In addition to the long-awaited compatibility with physical controllers on Android, Genshin Impact version 5.5 introduces a series of new content. Highlights include the new characters Varesa and Lansan, who arrive in the game with unique abilities and the potential to shake up the combat meta. The update also added two artifact sets: Oath of the Eternal Night and Epilogue of the Corridor.

The update package also includes a new weapon, called the Resplendent Heart, and a brand-new monster, known as the Lava Dragon Statue. Players will have access to events such as the Tournament of Glory in Bloom, the Arena of Eccentric Tremors, the Supreme Combat Championship, Rhythmic Billiards: Meztli Edition, and Abundant Benevolence. In addition, new Tribe Chronicles quests expand the storyline and offer attractive rewards.

Easier access reinforces Genshin Impact's appeal in the mobile market

With the addition of physical controller support on Android, Genshin Impact further solidifies its position as one of the leading titles in the mobile market. This new feature puts players on this platform on an equal footing with users of other versions of the game. Furthermore, the measure improves accessibility, especially benefiting those who have difficulty with touch controls.

Update 5.5 arrives at a strategic moment, with new content and technical improvements that promise to keep the player base engaged. By allowing joystick connection, the game reinforces its versatility and better adapts to the preferences of different audiences. With this, HoYoverse demonstrates attention to the demands of the community and bets on the loyalty of its audience on Android.
