The classic Ghost in the Shell is set to return to Japanese TV with a brand new adaptation. The anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL premieres in July 2026, featuring a revamped visual style and a major creative team. The production officially revealed a new visual and the initial trailer, reigniting the hype among fans of the cyberpunk franchise .

The new series will air nationwide in Japan on Fuji TV and its affiliates as part of the "Kaanibal!!" block. This gives the project a strategic spot in the weekly schedule. The animation is being handled by the studio Science SARU ( Dandadan ), known for its auteur-driven styles and bold narratives.
EnJoe Toh is handling the script and series composition . Shuhei Handa will be responsible for character design. Furthermore, Taisei Iwasaki will lead the musical direction with the soundtrack promising impact.

The story follows Major Motoko Kusanagi and the cybersecurity task force once again on missions that explore identity, technology, and consciousness. Therefore, expectations are high for a modern approach, without losing the essence created by Shirow Masamune .
