The new adaptation of The Ghost in the Shell revealed its second promotional video and official visual during AnimeJapan 2026.The series, produced by studio Science SARU (Dandadan), premieres in the July season on the “Ka-Anival!!” programming block, broadcast on Japanese television stations.

The project marks the directorial debut of Mokochan, known for his work in animation such as Dandadan. The script is by Toh Enjoe, while Shūhei Handa is responsible for character design and animation supervision.

Created by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell is a fiction manga published by Kodansha. The story follows security agents in a world dominated by cybernetic technology and artificial intelligence.

According to Shirow, this adaptation represents a new generation within the franchise, following versions directed by Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, and Kazuchika Kise. He highlighted the change in the creative team as a central point.

Production and legacy

The soundtrack will be led by Taisei Iwasaki, with collaboration from Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka. The production committee includes Bandai Namco Filmworks, Production IG, and other companies in the industry.

The franchise remains relevant even after the death of Atsuko Tanaka, the iconic voice of the character Motoko Kusanagi. The most recent project was the compilation film SAC_2045 The Last Human, released in 2023.
