Synopsis

The plot of Goodbye, Lara follows a mermaid who longs to be loved by a human, even though it is forbidden. After dying, she is reborn 200 years later in modern-day Japan, on Lake Biwa, where she must learn to live as a human. The story is directly inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's tale "The Little Mermaid," adapting the narrative to a contemporary context. Thus, the work blends fantasy and everyday life while exploring identity, memory, and social adaptation.

The anime is directed by Takushi Koide at the studio Kinema Citrus, known for productions such as Made in Abyss. Screenwriter Anna Kawahara supervises the scripts, while Shiori Tani is responsible for character designs.
