Hana Kimura's mother criticizes Oshi no Ko for reference to her daughter's death

Akane Kurokawa 's story in Oshi no Ko referenced the case of wrestler Hana Kimura , who committed suicide after being cyberbullied. However, the late wrestler's mother, Kyoko Kimura , criticized the anime's reference to her daughter's case, saying it was inappropriate.

The creators of Oshi no Ko have never officially confirmed that Akane's story is inspired by the Hana Kimura case, but many fans believe the manga artist used this reference. This idea quickly spread online until it reached Kimura's mother, who was disturbed by the case and also expressed her opinion on Twitter.

 "I can't imagine how deeply hurt those who care about Hana would be by using the true story as it is. Furthermore, distributing anime at this time when the anniversary of her death is approaching? I despise you from the bottom of my heart."

Synopsis:

The story follows a doctor named Gorou , a fan of a 16-year-old idol named Ai Hoshino . One day, Hoshino shows up at his office, claiming she's pregnant with twins, but her manager tells her to abort the babies. The idol doesn't want to abort; she wants both children. So Gorou promises her a safe delivery. Little does he know that an encounter with a mysterious figure will result in his untimely death, or so he thought. However, upon opening his eyes in his beloved idol's arms, Gorou discovers he's been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino , Ai's newborn son! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon discovers that the world of showbiz is full of controversies, where talent doesn't always bring success.

Thus , Akasaka and Yokoyari started the manga in Shueisha 's Salto Jovem in 2020. In addition, volume 12 of the manga was published on March 17, 2023 in Japan.
