In the "Best Animated Series" category, the two anime are competing against American animations such as Animaniacs , Central Park , Harley Quinn , and Star Trek: Lower Decks . Originally, the awards were to be presented on August 12th and 13th, but the ceremony was postponed due to the Writers Guild of America strike, which is still ongoing.

According to Crunchyroll, the references pertain to episode 23 of season 6 of My Hero Academia and the first part of the final episode of Attack on Titan.

Episode 23 of My Hero Academia, titled “Deku vs. Class A,” focuses on the confrontation between Midoriya and his friends, who are trying to bring him back to UA. Furthermore, the anime has already been confirmed for its 7th season by Studio Bones. Meanwhile, the final episode of the last season of Attack on Titan was split into two parts as one-hour specials. Therefore, the first special aired on March 3rd, while the second is scheduled to premiere in the fall 2023 season.
