HoYoverse introduced the Stygian Onslaught mode in Genshin Impact version 5.7 as the new endgame challenge for advanced players. The developer introduced brand new mechanics, exclusive rewards, and required strategic team building. During the live stream on June 6, 2025, the team detailed how the event works, which debuts with six combat stages and a focus on resource optimization.

The mode's structure prioritizes building three different teams to face enemies with specific weaknesses. Additionally, players will have access to rewards such as Enlightenment Dust and upgrade materials. The final stage involves level 110 bosses and demands complete mastery of the characters. Understand how to participate in the new mode and what benefits it offers.

Structure of the Stygian Onslaught mode in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact's 5.7 update officially brings the Stygian Onslaught mode. Players will be able to access it in both solo and co-op matches. The new content delivers a more intense and rewarding experience for those who have already progressed in the base game. Furthermore, the challenge includes five main stages and an extra stage that unlocks only after completing all the previous ones.

Each of the five stages features bosses with varied combat styles and unique mechanics. The key difference lies in the requirement for three distinct teams per player to complete all stages. This forces participants to invest in multiple characters and explore varied formations. The sixth stage functions as a bonus mission with level 110 enemies and differentiated rewards.

Furthermore, the mode was designed to function as an efficient alternative for artifact farming. Players will be able to face challenging groups with the promise of more consistent rewards than previous modes. This change responds to a long-standing community demand for endgame content that doesn't rely solely on luck in repetitive domains.

Rewards and new exclusive items in the mode

Upon completing the Stygian Onslaught challenges, players will receive rewards such as Mora, Character Experience, and high-rarity artifacts. One of the highlights is the new item Dust of Enlightenment. It allows players to reroll five-star artifacts at level 20, offering a chance to fix bad statuses on rare pieces.

This item is exclusive to the new mode and may change how players approach build optimization. In addition to Dust, HoYoverse has stated that not all stages will award Primogems. Stage six, for example, will have special, undisclosed rewards, not including Primogems as the main prize.

The event aims to encourage players to invest time in preparing their teams and offer compensation commensurate with the challenge. According to the developers, the focus is on rewarding effort and expanding in-game strategies.

How to prepare for the Stygian Onslaught

Before attempting to tackle the stages of Stygian Onslaught, it's crucial to review all available characters and check for elemental synergies. The diversity of enemies forces the player to consider combinations rarely used in other modes. Bosses like the Lava Dragon Statue and the Dark Papilla demand specific damage and support strategies.

Therefore, preparing three solid teams with well-defined roles will be essential for success. Investing in secondary characters, often overlooked, can be the difference between victory and defeat. Furthermore, well-optimized equipment and crowd control strategies will be great allies.

HoYoverse recommends starting preparation early and focusing on steadily progressing through the least-used units. This way, you can tackle the full mode and secure all the new items without wasting resin or playtime.
