Spoiler alert : Boruto: Two Blue Vortex introduced a three-year time jump in the series, and now Boruto is a criminal while Kawaki has everyone's support. Boruto – Is Kawaki really a villain or is this a misconception?

Kawaki found refuge with the Uzumaki family and developed a hatred for the Otsutsukis because Isshiki tortured him his entire life. Although Isshiki is dead, the threat of the Otsutsukis still lingers in Boruto, who carries Momoshiki . Since Naruto took him in, Kawaki has become very close to the 7th Hokage, to the point of doing anything to protect him.

So he took drastic actions, like trying to kill Boruto and trapping Naruto and Hinata in another dimension to prevent them from intervening. In this sense, he will clearly be seen as a villain by others, but his motivations are not illogical. Even Boruto once agreed to the idea of killing him because of Momoshiki's threat. Kawaki was indeed wrong in his actions, but his sole intention is to protect his savior, who took him in as a son. In this scenario, he walks a fine line between villain and protector.
