Kaiju No. 8 – Manga surpasses 4 million copies in circulation

Naoya Matsumoto 's Kaiju No. 8 manga has surpassed 4 million copies in circulation with the release of its fourth volume this Friday. The series was the fastest to reach this milestone in Shonen Jump+ (as opposed to Shueisha's printed manga).

The four million refers to copies in circulation that are printed or sold, not printed and sold. The number is not a sales statistic.

Kaiju No. 8 is filling an underexplored space in the Japanese manga market, bringing some of the narrative and visual style of famous webtoons, but with a standard classic manga structure. This creates a blend of both styles and offers readers a unique experience that we can see is attracting many attention. In fact, Kaiju No. 8 took first place in the seventh edition of "Next Manga" (Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taishō) in the web manga category.

Matsumoto launched the manga in July 2020 in Shueisha's Shonen Jump+. The chapters are available on the MANGA Plus under the title Monster #8 in English. However, the manga is not yet available in Brazil.

Synopsis

A man working in a job far removed from his childhood dreams finds himself in an unexpected situation…! Becoming a monster, he aims to once again fulfill his lifelong dream…!

Finally, in addition to winning first place in the “Next Manga” award, Kaiju No. 8 gained immense popularity, becoming the fastest Shonen Jump+ manga to surpass three million copies in circulation as of June 2021.
