Born in Atlanta and part of a family with several generations of deaf people, Kaylee began her career in commercials before making her mark in Hollywood. Her performance as Jia, a deaf character who communicates with Kong through sign language, became one of the highlights of the MonsterVerse and broadened the representation of the deaf community in film.
According to Frederick County authorities, the vehicle in which Kaylee was a passenger left the road and collided with a drainage structure. Police reported that excessive speed is one of the hypotheses being investigated for the accident.
The actress was eventually rescued, but she did not survive her injuries. The Texas School for the Deaf, where she studied, also paid tribute to the young woman.
