The official website for Knights of Sidonia announced this Friday the production of a new film based on the work of Tsutomu Nihei . The new film that premieres in 2021 will be called Sidonia no Kishi: Ai Tsumugu Hoshi ( Knights of Sidonia: The Star Where Love is Spun ).

However, the film will not follow the manga, but rather develop a new story with the same protagonist, however the author Nihei will supervise the project.
Staff
The new film will be animated by Polygon Pictures and distributed by CloverWorks . The anime's co-director Hiroyuki Seshita will return as general director, while Tadahiro Yoshihira, the editor of the previous anime, will direct the new film at Polygon Pictures. Sadayuki Murai and Tetsuya Yamada return to write the script. Mitsunori Kataama returns as art director, and Reiji Nagazono as animation director. Naoya Tanaka returns as production design. Masayuki Uemoto returns with Takuma Ishibashi to supervise the CG animation. Shuji Katayama is composing the music.
The first season of Knights of Sidonia premiered in Japan in April 2014. The second season, called Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine, premiered in April 2015, both with 12 episodes. Netflix streamed both seasons after the anime aired in Japan.
Tsutomu Nihei 's manga was published in Kodansha between 2009 and 2015, with 15 volumes.
