My name is Rafael Alves, known as Shinzo. I created the AnimeNew website in 2009 to offer news about anime, manga, and games directly from Japan.

The author Nekokurage (Erika Ikeda), responsible for the manga of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (Apothecary Diaries), received a 10-month prison sentence and a fine of 11 million yen (approximately US$70,600) for tax evasion.

However, the prison sentence will be suspended if Nekokurage maintains good behavior for the next three years.

Ikeda is accused of failing to declare approximately 260 million yen (about R$ 8.6 million) in income and evading approximately 47 million yen (about R$ 1.5 million) in taxes between 2019 and 2021. According to the tax authorities, the undeclared funds, including profits from manga sales, were used to purchase real estate.

During the trial, Ikeda stated that he had no intention of avoiding payment and that he was "planning to pay everything at once later." Nekokurage filed tax petitions over several years without meeting the stipulated deadlines.

Therefore, Nekokurage's editor also stated that he warned the author to file a tax return, otherwise the situation would get ugly. Furthermore, the original creator of The Apothecary Diaries novels, Natsu Hyūga, advised Nekokurage to "consult a tax accountant".
