The previous episode ended with the character Xiaolan dropping an important item during a delivery. In the scene, we see the girl's distress at the mistake she made and the despair of the eunuch who was responsible for delivering the ice to Loulan, one of the high-ranking consorts of the Granada Palace, who had requested an ice treat to refresh her afternoon. Determined to solve the problem, Maomao has a brilliant idea and asks Jinshi for help.

Maomao prepares fruit ice cream for Loulan
Following the frog scene in episodes 11 and 12, the tension between the protagonist and the fake eunuch is more evident than usual. However, Maomao puts aside what happened between them and borrows the kitchen and utensils to make fruit ice cream with the leftover ice and help Xiaolan. Jinshi takes advantage of the situation to ask for something in return: when someone is talking to her, she must listen until the end. It's clear that this condition was designed for when he decides to reveal his true identity and position within the Imperial Palace.
Furthermore, Jinshi also asks Maomao to wear the hair ornament he gave her at the garden party in the first season. In this way, we can see how the script of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has a well-developed structure. The anime doesn't leave out situations that occurred and revisits details from the previous season, such as the hair ornament itself.

Furthermore, the mysteries that arise during the narrative are connected in a clear and cohesive way. However, there are still open situations in the anime that will likely be resolved soon.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto highlights Gyokuyo's pregnancy
Gyokuyo, the consort of the Jade Palace, is due to give birth soon. Maomao discovers that the baby might be breech, meaning its head is facing upwards, a position that can pose risks during childbirth.
Concerned for her consort's well-being, Maomao suggests the presence of Luomen, her adoptive father and a skilled doctor, who was exiled from the Imperial Palace, making him a criminal. In the end, after considering the matter, Gyokuyo agrees and accepts Luomen to deliver her baby.
The animation in Kusuriya no Hitorigoto does not disappoint. Beyond the vibrant colors, there's meticulous attention to detail in every scene. At the exact moment when Maomao considers her father as one of the possible doctors to help her wife, a light coming from the window slowly illuminates her face as she reflects on the situation.

Finally, Luomen is invited to work as a temporary doctor at the Inner Palace and, as usual, there's a cliffhanger for the next chapter. At the end of the episode, the new eunuch of the Imperial Palace, who appeared in the previous episode, is facing a tombstone. From this, we can conclude that he will have more prominence from now on.
Each episode of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto presents a mystery or unexpected situation, maintaining an interesting and unique pace to the narrative. Besides a sarcastic, funny, and insightful main character, the animation, produced by TOHO Animation, stands out. It uses vibrant colors and character designs that truly capture attention. Furthermore, the secondary characters are also well-developed, generating charisma and interest in the viewer.
