Summary of episode 1 of season 2
The episode began in the spring, shortly after the events of the garden party in the previous season. Jinshi conducted an inspection of all the residences in the Palace, speaking with the ladies-in-waiting. During this visit, the concubine Gyokuyo revealed that Maomao had been spending a great deal of time at the clinic, dedicated to creating new remedies and solutions.
Maomao also ordered books from a brothel where she had previously worked to help the ladies-in-waiting educate themselves. Although Jinshi and Gaoshun confiscated the materials, they decided not to reprimand her. Instead, Jinshi decided to print and distribute them to the concubines, encouraging literacy in the Palace.
During a stroll outside the Jade Pavilion, the princess found an abandoned kitten and asked Maomao to capture it. After caring for the animal at the clinic, Maomao received permission from the emperor to keep it. The kitten earned the title of "Inspector of Thieves" for hunting rats that threatened the clinic's supplies and was affectionately called Maomao .
