Previously, as soon as Maomao discovered that the new eunuch was actually Suirei, she was forced to follow the former servant to the outside of the Imperial Palace; otherwise, Shisui would suffer the consequences. In the current episode, the apothecary accompanies Suirei without knowing where they are going, but an intriguing situation catches her attention.
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Maomao discovers part of Shisui's secret
The work Kusuriya no Hitorigoto does not disappoint when it comes to building the mystery that surrounds the narrative. Maomao has been suspicious of Shisui for a long time. It is necessary to remember that in the episode "Haunted Story" the protagonist noticed a certain familiarity in the character's physiognomy.
Furthermore, in the previous episode, Maomao reflected on Shisui owning an expensive book and also on his ability to read and write, something rare among the maids. This makes it clear that every detail mentioned or shown in the narrative could be important in the future, just as the work has demonstrated so far.

Returning to the current episode, as they walked to their final destination, Maomao noticed that Suirei was afraid of a snake in the forest. However, what really caught the apothecary's attention was the fact that Shisui tried to defend Suirei, which is very strange, since she was the one who threatened and forced the girl to go with them.
Maomao, who quickly becomes suspicious of Shisui's behavior, tells the two girls that she's already realized they know each other. The girl then reveals that she is Suirei's sister. However, the protagonist reflects that, although she can't say for sure, "maybe Shisui is…". The problem is that she doesn't finish the sentence, as she continues on her way and sets the thought aside, further piquing the viewer's curiosity about the girl's identity.

When they arrive at their destination, Maomao realizes it's a village. There, the apothecary notices that Shisui and Suirei seem to be well-known by the villagers. Furthermore, she discovers that one of the foreign envoys who appeared in the episode "Spirit of the Moon" is in the village. However, the reason remains a mystery.
Jinshi discovers that something is wrong with the new eunuch and Shisui
After Maomao disappears from the Inner Palace, Jinshi and Gaoshun search for clues to try and find her. They discover that the school that teaches imperial maids was the last place they saw her. Seeking more information, the two go to the girl's adoptive father, Luomen, who is currently working as a temporary physician at the Palace.
Thus, Luomen discovers that Maomao left the Palace health post with a medicine whose scent attracts cats, and consequently, the cat, who is also named Maomao, followed the girl part of the way. While searching for the cat, Luomen notices a piece of paper hidden in a tree.

Apparently, the paper is blank. However, the apothecary's adoptive father knows that it's possible the girl used tea or juice to write on the paper, and both materials only appear when the sheet is heated. When the ideograms emerge, Jinshi can't understand their meaning, since Maomao seems to have written them hastily, resulting in a confusing script.
Jinshi takes the paper to Consort Gyokuyo, seeking her help and that of the ladies-in-waiting at the Jade Palace. Only one of the three sisters, ladies-in-waiting who recently joined the Palace, seems to understand one of the ideograms. She suggests that the symbol might mean "sui" and associates it with Shisui. As Jinshi doesn't seem to know who this person is, the lady-in-waiting clarifies that it is one of the servants who accompanies Maomao on certain occasions.

In the final scene of the episode, Gaoshun reveals to Jinshi that there is no servant named Shisui in the records. Furthermore, he informs her that one of the Palace eunuchs has also disappeared. Moreover, before the chapter ends, a eunuch appears to report something about Consort Gyokuyo. However, the ending credits begin before the viewers understand what it's about. Spoiler: in the manga, Consort Gyokuyo goes into labor, so it's likely the eunuch will talk about that.
The mysteries connect one by one, delivering a solid and well-constructed narrative
Many characteristics underpin Kusuriya no Hitorigoto , and the script is one of them. There's no denying that the storyline is very well constructed. Furthermore, the details and mysteries connect, making the work solid and without loose ends. Despite the lack of explanation in some points, it's likely that everything will be addressed in the future, because, so far, the work has shown that nothing is left unresolved.
Beyond the script, it's undeniable that the animation, produced by Toho Studios , is very beautiful. The vibrant colors, character design, and attention to detail in each scene complement the work. Furthermore, there's the protagonist, who, on her own, captivates viewers with her unique personality.

The second season of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has 24 episodes, and 17 have already been released. However, there is still much to be explored and revealed. The first season of the anime is available on the streaming platforms Crunchyroll and Netflix, while episodes of the second season are being released weekly on Crunchyroll, with Portuguese subtitles available.
