It has been revealed that mangaka Leiji Matsumoto passed away at the age of 85 from acute heart failure on February 13th. Matsumoto was known for creating science fiction classics, including: Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999, Captain Harlock, among others.

In Brazil, his best-known work was Space Battleship Yamato, an animated series that won over many fans in the 1980s.
Synopsis:
The story revolves around the adventures of the crew of the space battleship Yamato, adapted for space travel in the year 2199, from the Japanese battleship Yamato, sunk in World War II. Until then, its wreckage lay stranded at the bottom of the ocean. It was adapted to be Earth's last hope in resisting attacks from the planet Gamilon.
Finally, Matsumoto was born on January 25, 1938, in the city of Kurume, in the Fukuoka region.
