fans Lycoris Recoil can rejoice: a new anime is coming, completely separate from the animated short series that premieres in April. Director Shingo Adachi explained to the Mantan Web that he began developing the main project right after the end of the first season and continues to work on it very carefully.
"You might think the short films are the new project, but we're also working on a new animation. I just ask that you wait a little longer," Adachi stated.
The confusion arose because the announcement of the new anime, made in 2023, coincided with the release of the short series. Now, with confirmation that they are distinct productions, fans can expect even more new content from the Lycoris Recoil universe. Character designer Imigimuru has also expressed a desire to participate in future projects of the franchise.
While the new anime is still in development, the animated short series will premiere on April 16, 2025 on Aniplex YouTube channel, with English subtitles available thanks to Aniplex of America. In the released trailer, Chisato even shouts "Lycoris Recoil, the movie!", but is quickly corrected by Takina, who clarifies: "it's a short film".
