Made in Abyss will have a new film trilogy, part 1 arrives in 2026

team Made in Abyss has confirmed that the previously announced sequel will be a series of films for theaters. The first feature film, titled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun – The Awakened Enigma (unofficial translation of Mezameru Shinpi / 目覚める神秘), will premiere in 2026.

The reveal came alongside a new teaser visual and the release of volume 14 of the manga. The visual shows two new characters, Tepaste and Cravagli, reunited at the Tumble Tavern.

A direct continuation of the 2022 anime

The film will be a direct sequel to the 2022 season, Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, again produced by Kinema Citrus. The technical team includes:

  • Director: Masayuki Kojima
  • Screenplay: Hideyuki Kurata
  • Character design: Yuka Kuroda and Kazuchika Kise (Production IG)
  • Animation production: Kinema Citrus

Created by Akihito Tsukushi, the manga follows Riko, a girl who, along with the robot Reg, descends into the mysterious Abyss, a gigantic pit filled with relics and enigmatic creatures. The work is published on Takeshobo's Web Comic Gamma website and has already sold over 22 million copies.

Concerts and special events

A special concert, Made in Abyss Film Concert: Deep Echoes of Resonance, will take place on February 8, 2026, at the Nakano ZERO Grand Hall in Tokyo. Composer Kevin Penkin will conduct the live orchestra, with guest appearances by singers Ko Saito and KIHOW (MYTH & ROID). The main cast, Miyu Tomita (Riko), Mariya Ise (Reg), and Shiori Izawa (Nanachi), will also be present.

In addition, a Bondrewd-themed store and a special fragrance collaboration are in production.
