Majo no Tabitabi Author Asks Anime Staff: “No Panties”

In an interview with Japanese magazine Newtype about the Majo no Tabitabi , the light novel's author, Jougi Shiraishi , revealed a peculiar request he made to the anime's staff.

Interview translated from English

“Question: What kind of interaction did you have with the animation staff?

Shiraishi: The only thing I asked was, 'Please don't show any panties.' I wanted this work to be seen by people of all ages, so we wanted to keep the audience broad. That's the only important request I made of them.

While peculiar, it's a sensible request. Since anime audiences are predominantly male, studios spare no effort in animating ecchi scenes. In a light fantasy adventure like Majo no Tabitabi, this would certainly deviate from the story's original premise.

Majo no Tabitabi premiered on October 2.

Synopsis

A witch named Elaina encounters many people and countries as she continues her long journey. A country that only accepts magicians, a giant who loves his own muscles, a princess left alone in a ruined country, and of course, we have the story of the witch herself—who takes from these small stories, great memories.

The light novel illustrated by Azure has been published in SB Creative's GA Novel since April 2016, with 13 volumes to date.

Furthermore, the novel received a manga adaptation in November 2018 illustrated by Itsuki Nanao in Square Enix 's Manga UP!, with 2 volumes so far.
