Earlier this year, we had the Manga , or as it's better known, the Manga Grand Prix! It's worth noting that this renowned event has been held in Japan since 2008, giving the manga industry even more exposure. Now, without further ado, let's check out the list:
Manga Grand Prix – Top 10
10. SPY x FAMILY: Now, opening our list of winners, we have this work that scored 38 points . But, for those unfamiliar with the work, it centers on a spy who helped the world in his missions. But now, he receives an unusual mission: to form a family and start a new life!
09. Kowloon Generic Romance: Here we have a very interesting mix of genres like slice of life, romance, and seinen. This drama revolves around more adult romance, with multiple plotlines, blending drama and a quiet life. It's no wonder it managed to accumulate 46 points on the list.
08. Metamorphose no Engawa: Here, we see the most exotic plot of all. But it's still interesting. It revolves around a woman who ends up reading a BL manga and ends up liking it. Then, when she buys the next volume, she ends up meeting another girl who likes BL, and from there, a new friendship blossoms! In fact, it accumulated about 48 points in the awards.
07. Onna no Sono no Hoshi: This one scored 57 points and stands out from the rest because it's an extremely lighthearted and funny work. It tells the story of a teacher's daily life in a lively and comical way, involving his students and their daily lives.
6. Kaijuu 8-gou: Now, we have this work that has become very popular here in the West. It reached an incredible 58 points and brought us a very interesting story. By the way, for those who haven't read it, I highly recommend reading it, but it currently only has 40 chapters.
Manga Grand Prix – Top 5
5. Oshi no Ko: Starting off our top 5, we have this work with 59 points . Also, for those who don't know, the author is the same as Love is War, and it's also a very recent work, having been released last year. Finally, it revolves around an idol, but I won't say anything else to avoid spoiling the reading. Go read it, because it's truly unique.
4. Mizu wa Umi ni Mukatte Nagareru: This work achieved 60 points . Therefore, it's also a slice-of-life story, where a young student changes schools and moves in with his eccentric uncle and other peculiar people. Just being in the top 4 already shows the work's potential!
Manga Grand Prix – Top 03
03. Karaoke Iko!
Finally, we've reached the top 3, which totaled 64 points ! This is another work with a very different theme. It revolves around a student who is kidnapped by the Yakuza to give singing lessons! Furthermore, as the narrative progresses, a strange friendship develops between them...
02. Chi – Chikyuu no Undou ni Tsuite
In second place with 67 points , we have this wonderful work! It's set in 15th-century Europe and focuses on "wrong" ideologies, where heretics were burned alive. Soon, our protagonist meets a mysterious man who studies these ideologies!
01. Sousou no Frieren
And in first place, we have this work that won hands down with 91 points . Its success is also growing here in the West. Furthermore, it features a legendary heroine who reminisces about her time with her companions and, consequently, her regrets that embitter her heart! A true work of art.
