MAO reveals new trailer and unreleased songs for the second part of the anime

The anime MAO, an adaptation of the manga by Rumiko Takahashi (creator of Inuyasha), has released a new promotional video previewing the second part of the season. In addition to new scenes, the material showcases the new theme songs that will accompany the upcoming episodes of the series.

The continuation officially begins on July 4, 2026, starting with episode 14. The group 20th Century will be responsible for the new opening theme, titled “Bokura ga Uwagaki suru Sekai”, while singer Reina Ueda performs the ending theme “Tayutau”. The promotional video highlights both tracks and offers a preview of the conflicts awaiting the protagonists.

Synopsis

The story follows Nanoka, a young woman who crosses a portal to the Taisho Era and becomes involved with the exorcist Mao. As she investigates mysterious murders and supernatural phenomena, she discovers an unexpected connection to an ancient curse linked to the feline demon Byoki and Mao's cursed sword.

The animation is produced by Sunrise, directed by Teruo Sato, with script supervision by Yuko Kakihara. Character design is by Yoshihito Hishinuma, known for his work on InuYasha and Yashahime. The main cast includes Yuki Kaji as Mao and Natsumi Kawaida as Nanoka.

Finally, Rumiko Takahashi created the manga MAO, published since 2019 in Weekly Shonen Sunday , and already has 29 volumes released in Japan.
