Masasumi Kakizaki, will launch manga about World War II

The April issue of Monthly Shonen Sunday from Shogakukan , announced on Wednesday (12) that author Masasumi Kakizaki will launch a new manga on May 12, 2025.

The name of the story is Kyokuhoku in Geroi (Gerroi in the Arctic), and takes place in Shumshu , a place near the northernmost end of the Curilla islands . And will tell the history of the front line of the war against the United States and the Soviet Union .

The battle of Shumshu took place from August 18 to 23, 1945, and became known as the last battle of World War II . Check out the promotional image of the manga:

About the works of Masasumi Kakizaki

Kakizaki's last story was Yomotshegui manga : Shisha no Kuni no Kajitsu (Yomotshegui: Scons of the Underworld) serialized by Monthly Young Magazine from Kodansha from 2021 to 2023.

His most famous work is Rainbow: Nisha Rokubo on Shichinin (Rainbow: The Seven from Block 2, Cell 6). The author published the manga at Weekly Young Sunday from 2002 to 200. And later transferred his serialization to Big Comic Spirits from 2009 to 2010.

The story takes place in 1955 , where six boys committed crimes and fell into the Special Reformatory Shonan, Block 2, cell 6 .

Rainbow follows the life of the boys during their time in the reformatory and the years after they departed. Highlighting the struggles that the low class faced in postwar .

The Creator divided the manga into four chapters of history, and chapter one takes place between 1955 and 1956. Chapter two in 1957 and 1958. Chapter three is set between 1960 and 1964. And the last chapter shows past events between 1953 and 1955 and the present between 1964 and 1968.

The cities of Tokyo and Shonan are the main scenarios in the history of the characters.
