Variety listed its “10 Screenwriters to Watch in 2023” on November 22, including Tasha Huo ( Red Sonja, Tomb Raider animated series ), who is reportedly working on the script for a Lionsgate-produced live-action Naruto film.
Hollywood news website Tracking Board reported in July 2015 that Lionsgate had acquired the rights to adapt the manga into a live-action film and was in talks with Michael Gracey to direct.

Naruto and Boruto's stage presentation at the Jump Festa event in 2016 confirmed that Lionsgate and Gracey were working on the film. However, original creator Masashi Kishimoto was involved in the production.
The Tracking Board also reported in 2015 that Avi Arad (Hollywood's Ghost in the Shell, Gamba: Gamba to Nakama-tachi) and his son Ari Arad were producing the film at Arad Productions, and Erik Feig, Geoff Shaveitz, and Kelly O'Malley were supervising the film.
The Hollywood Reporter reported in August 2017 that Jon and Erich Hoeber (Red, Red 2) were on board to rewrite the film's script.
Collider reported in March 2018 that Gracey stated the team was still working on the script to secure Kishimoto's approval. It's currently unclear whether any of the people mentioned besides Huo are still involved in the project.
Finally, Kishimoto launched the Naruto manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1999 and ended the work in November 2014.
