The film is scheduled to premiere in 2022. The release schedule may vary depending on each country and region.
Original creator Akira Toriyama is in charge of the script and character designs. He was already starting work on the script while the previous film Dragon Ball Super: Broly was still in production. Toriyama shared the following message to fans:
Just like the previous film, I'm heavily leading the story and dialogue production for another incredible film.
I really shouldn't say too much about the plot just yet, but be prepared for some extreme and fun fights, which may introduce an unexpected character.
We will be charting unexplored territory in terms of visual aesthetics to give audiences an incredible journey, so I hope everyone is looking forward to the new film!
Planning for the new film project began in 2018, before the release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The film aims to tell “a story on a grand scale.” In addition to composing the story and character designs, Toriyama is also writing dialogue for the film.
The film will therefore be the 21st in the Dragon Ball franchise overall.
