The official website for Puella Magi Madoka Magica has released a banner for the third film and also revealed a new "magical girl" character. Kana Asumi will play Nagisa Momoe, a new magical girl with a childlike appearance. The website teases that nothing is known about her motivations for becoming a magical girl, nor why she appears in the story of the third film.
Madoka: An ordinary girl who seemingly has no special talents, whose life is turned upside down after the appearance of Homura and Kyubey. She begins to have doubts about becoming a Puella Magi after Mami's death, although she continues to accompany Sayaka in the witch hunts.
Akiyuki Shinbo and Yukihiro Miyamoto are directing the third film at the animation studio SHAFT, with original character designs by manga creator Ume Aoki. Yuki Kajiura will compose the soundtrack, while the musical units Claris and Kalafina will perform the film's opening theme "Colorful" and ending theme "Kimi no Gin no Niwa" (Your Garden Silver), respectively. The main cast will be returning from the television series along with the previous two films.

The third film will be shown in Japan on October 26th. The film will also be shown in the United States, Canada, and France this winter. Aniplex announced at the JapanExpo event in Paris that the film will premiere in France on November 16th, and intends to release the third film in other countries, as happened with the first two films.
