During this Friday's (12) Nintendo Direct, the Japanese company surprised fans by announcing a special Super Mario Galaxy collection for the Nintendo Switch. The package will bring together the two classic titles of the franchise in a single release, marking a long-awaited return for those who want to relive the plumber's cosmic adventure.

The collection arrives as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Mario and promises to deliver the original experience with adjustments for modern controls. In addition to the cartridge release, the games will also be available digitally, expanding the options for players.

Super Mario Galaxy returns to the Switch with a new collection
Originally released on the Wii, Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel stood out for revolutionizing the series' gameplay. By exploring scenarios where gravity was a central element, the games won over audiences and critics alike, and are still considered some of the most memorable chapters in the franchise. Now, both get a new chance to shine on Nintendo's hybrid console, with improved resolution and adapted controls for the Joy-Cons.
Availability and purchase formats
According to Nintendo, both games will be available for purchase both physically and separately on the eShop. This decision broadens player access and corrects a point of criticism from the past, as the company had made the first title available on the Switch in a very limited way in 2020, as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. At the time, the restricted distribution made physical copies rare and expensive on the market.
The expectation is that the collection will bring the same content as the original games, but without the barriers previously imposed. In this way, new players will have the chance to explore the grandeur of Super Mario Galaxy without access difficulties. Furthermore, longtime fans will be able to revisit the starry worlds with higher quality graphics and gameplay adjusted to current hardware.

New features beyond the collection
Nintendo has also confirmed the release of new amiibo figures inspired by the franchise. Among them are a special version of Mario and a Rosalina figure accompanied by the iconic Star Sprites. The collectibles will arrive in stores in April 2026, reinforcing the calendar of celebrations dedicated to the most famous mascot in gaming.
