Henry Thurlow is a professional animator who has worked on the production of several One Piece episodes with Toei Animation. However, he has now taken on a larger role as director of episode 1066 of the anime. He announced this on his Twitter account, emphasizing the great responsibility he feels as the first American to direct an episode of One Piece.

"I, Henry Thurlow, am the director of episode 1066 of One Piece, which will air this month.".

As far as I can tell (and as far as the production team knew when I asked), there has never been a non-Japanese episode director for OP, or possibly any Toei Animation TV series… never.”

Synopsis:

The story revolves around Monkey D. Luffy, a young man who gained a body made of rubber after eating the magical Gomu Gomu no Mi (Rubber Fruit). He was inspired by his childhood idol, the powerful pirate Shanks the Red-Haired, to become a pirate and sail on a journey across the sea to find the mythical treasure, the One Piece, and proclaim himself the King of the Pirates.
