However, the Final Saga may finally bring answers that fans have been waiting for.
During the Egghead, Vegapunk revealed a major mystery in his broadcast: wars during the Void Century caused a cataclysm that transformed the world of One Piece into a collection of scattered islands. Now, the Elbaf Arc seems poised to unveil the origins of the Red Line, confirming a long-standing fan theory.

Harley's writings, which Oda recently revealed in Elbaf, suggest that someone may have artificially created the Red Line, possibly during or even before the Void Century. However, in chapter 1138, the first verse of the writings mentions a "serpent of infernal fire." This serpent, instead of being a literal animal, may be a reference to the Red Line, inspired by the Norse legend of Jörmungandr, the giant serpent that encircles the world.
The connection between the Red Line and Norse mythology

In Harley's writings, the "infernal fire serpent" and the "earth god" are described as responsible for enveloping the world in death and darkness, preventing people from meeting. While this description makes sense if we consider that the Red Line divides the four seas, isolating them from one another.
The theory that the Red Line was artificially created gained even more traction with this revelation. Many fans speculate that the Red Line could be inspired by Jörmungandr, the serpent that, in Norse mythology, encircles the earth. Interestingly, this image also evokes the Egyptian symbol of the Ouroboros, often represented as a red serpent.
The destruction of the Red Line and Luffy's role
The legend of Jörmungandr also says that, by releasing its tail, the serpent would initiate Ragnarök, an apocalyptic war. Therefore, this mythological element could be reflected in One Piece with the destruction of the Red Line, a theory widely discussed by fans and associated with Madam Sharley's prophecy about Luffy destroying Fish-Man Island.
Furthermore, in Little Garden, the giants Dorry and Brogy mention a "blood serpent," referring to the same serpent described in Harley's texts. This connection reinforces the idea that the Red Line is a symbol of oppression, representing the power and authority of the World Nobles.
What can we expect from the future of One Piece?
The destruction of the Red Line would be an act of resistance against the World Government, reuniting the seas and allowing people to reconnect. As the heir to the will of the Sun God Nika, Luffy could be the protagonist of this radical change, leading the fight for freedom and justice.
