The live-action One Piece surprised Eiichiro Oda and fans by adding surprise and faithful materials to the manga, such as the inclusion of Mr. 7 . Then Matt Owens , the executive producer of the series, said that Netflix created this character inspired by an exclusive drawing by Oda himself.
One Piece – Netflix received an exclusive Mr. 7 drawing by Eiichiro Oda
Check it out:
Although it is canon, Mr. 7 never appeared in the One Piece anime or manga, because Zoro killed him before the beginning of the story. He is only mentioned in a brief conversation between the characters and in the SBS of volume 36. However, being a big fan of the manga, Owens told Oda that he was interested in presenting Mr. 7 in live-action. Therefore, the mangaka was impressed with the producer's idea and dedication.
“One of the many ideas I proposed to Oda in our first meeting was the introduction of Zoro. In an old SBS Oda mentioned that Zoro was previously recruited by Mr. 7, from Baroque Works, and that he killed him in combat. This was exactly what I was looking for: Something canonical that we had never seen in the manga. Oda turned to one of his editors and asked, “Did I say that?”
The next day they presented me with this drawing. The only time Mr. 7 was completely designed by Oda. He said he was impressed with my knowledge of his world and liked the idea. Holding it was like carrying the Holy Grail. It was the first of many great conversations and interactions with Eiichiro Oda himself. Someone I am proud to call a collaborator and friend.”
