YenPress : In the end, Hachiman and Yukino end up together. This was planned from the beginning, and have you considered other possible "routes," even if Hachiman never had that accident on the first day?
Watari: In the beginning, I always knew that the story was like a perfect plot, a perfect plan, those " What if?" scenarios. They can fully exist, but no matter what might happen in the other arcs, Yukino has a special place in Hachiman's heart. Let's say, for example, that he takes another path and ends up with a different girl: I think she (Yukino) would be the girl who, if he died and had a funeral, would be the first to enter and cry in front of his picture. Even if he didn't have a romantic interest, she would be a special character for Hachiman.
YenPress : Haruno Yukinoshita as a character is intriguing and can be difficult to figure out. Do you think she's a good person?
Watari: That's a difficult question to answer (laughs). Haruno loves her sister Yukino , but that love is a little distorted in a way. Actually, it comes from my mother. She's from a family of three siblings, and including her, all the siblings were friendly with each other. But sometimes, they can be horrible to each other, and I have a feeling that the Yukino-Haruno is aligned with what my mother was like.
YenPress : On social media, you use Komachi Hikigaya as your profile picture. Do you have any particular attachment to Komachi, and if so, what makes it special?
Watari: The reason it's Komachi and not the others is because if I chose one of those characters, it would start a war, right? Anyway, I chose Komachi. But at the same time, the Komachi I got has a nice smile, and with that smile, I can say things without being a little divisive, right?
