Episode 6 of Oshi no Ko explored, through the character Akane Kurokawa , the hatred that artists can suffer on social media. However, many people may not even know that Akane's tragic story was inspired by the case of Hana Kimura , a Japanese wrestler who committed suicide after suffering relentless online attacks.

Hana Kimura excelled in her wrestling career and partnered with major Japanese brands, but her career ended when she participated in the Netflix reality show, Terrace House . During this time, the wrestler had a fight with another participant on the show and faced criticism from viewers for also having Indonesian ancestry. All the criticism questioned her for not being a pure Japanese and for the fight on the program.

Shortly after receiving so many attacks, Kimura couldn't handle the pressure and committed suicide in 2020, dying at the age of 22. So it's noticeable that this case has certain similarities to Akane's story in Oshi no Ko. The character was also harshly attacked on social media just because of a reality show incident, and this greatly affected her psychological well-being and health.

Synopsis:

The story follows a doctor named Gorou , a fan of a 16-year-old idol named Ai Hoshino . One day, Hoshino appears at his office, claiming to be pregnant with twins, but her manager tells her to abort the babies. However, the idol refuses to abort; she wants to have both children. Gorou promises her a safe delivery. Little does he know that an encounter with a mysterious figure will result in his premature death, or so he thought. However, upon opening his eyes in the arms of his beloved idol, Gorou discovers he has been reborn as Aquamarine Hoshino , Ai's newborn son! With his world turned upside down, Gorou soon discovers that the world of showbiz is full of controversies, where talent doesn't always bring success.

Thus , Akasaka and Yokoyari began the manga in Shueisha 's Young Jump in 2020. Furthermore, volume 12 of the manga was published on March 17, 2023 in Japan.
