In recent years, Dragon Ball has experienced an impressive renaissance, thanks to productions like Super: Super Hero and the current Dragon Ball Daima. Recently, the manga released a new chapter posthumous Akira Toriyama, focusing on the adventures of Goten and Trunks as crime fighters.

Now, producer Akio Iyoku, in a revealing interview, shared insights into what makes Toriyama so special and how Dragon Ball Daima is a tribute to GT.

Iyoku highlighted that Dragon Ball's strength lies in its action scenes, which have evolved over the years.

“Action is Dragon Ball’s strong point, and Toei Animation has an advantage in that area. Creating unique and unparalleled action scenes is a constant challenge, but that’s what motivates us,” he explained.

He further emphasized that the characters' ability to fly and fight in the air is a striking distinguishing feature.

“Many action works are based on battles with feet on the ground, but in Dragon Ball, all the characters fly. That's something that really sets us apart.”

However, another aspect that Iyoku highlighted was the construction of a complete and imaginative universe.

“Dragon Ball creates a totally fantastic world. This time, in Dragon Ball Daima, we explore the Demon World, but there’s also the Celestial World, Hell, and much more. It’s a rich universe full of possibilities,” he stated.

He compared it to other works that are based more on reality, highlighting that the creative freedom of the work is one of the reasons for its enduring success.

“The diversity of characters, from humans to aliens, with thoughts and principles different from our own, is something that captivates the audience. Everything is so well-constructed that it evokes genuine emotions. There aren't many worlds entirely based on imagination like Dragon Ball,” Iyoku added.

Therefore, episodes of the current Daima series are released every Fridayat 11:40 PM JST. They are available on Crunchyroll, with a subtitled option.
