Dwayne, or rather The Rock, Johnson has confirmed that he will play Black Adam in the highly anticipated Shazam movie. Dwayne Johnson himself announced it on his personal Twitter account: “Kneel at his feet or be crushed by his boots.” It’s an honor to become #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero, the message says.
The actor had already hinted at playing the villain, and for months the mystery remained about which character he would portray in the adaptation. According to Variety, Darren Lemke (Turbo) will be responsible for the film's script, which will show Black Adam more as an anti-hero trying to clear his name than as a villain. There is still no information about who will play Captain Marvel in the film.
Created by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck in 1945, Black Adam was one of the first wielders of the Wizard Shazam's powers, back in the time of Ancient Egypt, when he was known as Teth-Adam, son of Pharaoh Ramses II. Teth allowed himself to be seduced by power and was exiled by the Wizard Shazam to another dimension. Black Adam only managed to free himself when the Wizard Shazam offered his powers to Billy Batson, Captain Marvel.
