Shizuka Furuya returns to voice acting after paralyzing accident

Voice actress Furuya Shizuka has announced that she is returning to voice acting, five years after announcing her retirement in 2015.

In an interview with the Animate Times , she revealed that the reason she retired in 2015 was because she was hit by a truck in a traffic accident, leaving half of her body subsequently paralyzed.

Furuya added that she only announced her retirement on her Twitter account while she was a freelance voice actress and not working for a talent agency. However, her producer recently asked if she would be considering returning to voice acting, and she also received a job offer from her former agency, Production Ace .

She said the producer wasn't aware of her retirement, and that her well-known voice actress from the anime Nichijou, Mariko Honda, also didn't know she was retired. Furuya noticed that she had closed her Twitter account after announcing her retirement. After retiring, Furuya worked a variety of jobs, but used her time off to go on vacation in South Korea.

Furuya is known for voicing some characters in anime, such as the previously mentioned Nichijou , such as Nano Shinonome, Uruchi Minaya in Maken-Ki! and Matsuko Arita in Another .
