The second issue of this year's Shueisha magazine , Shonen Jump Next!! , revealed that the magazine will undergo a name change this summer. The temporary title for the new name is Jump GIGA , and its concept will be "a special edition for evolved newcomers."
Shonen Jump Next!! currently publishes spin-off chapters of manga featured in the main Weekly Shonen Jump, current and past one-shots by magazine contributors, and one-shots by newcomers.
The magazine has undergone several changes over time:
- It was launched in 1969 under the name Shounen Jump, as a spinoff of Weekly Shonen Jump, and was published weekly.
- In 1980 the magazine became quarterly, and in 1996 it changed its name to Akamaru Jump, being published three times a year.
- In 2010 it changed its name again to Shonen Jump NEXT!
- In 2012, its frequency reverted to quarterly.
- In 2014, the magazine was transformed again, becoming the current Shonen Jump NEXT!! and began to be published bimonthly.
