The anime adaptation of Solo Leveling has been a hit with fans, breaking records in several places since its premiere in January. However, the latest episode is not a cause for celebration, as it has achieved a record number of dislikes on Crunchyroll, a level no other anime would want to reach.

The retrospective episode (numbered 7.5) has become the most disliked episode on all of Crunchyroll. To date, it has accumulated over 64,500 dislikes, while it only has around 30,600 likes. That's practically more than double.

This is understandable, since Solo Leveling will only have a total of 12 episodes and aired right after episode 7 (considered the best so far), which most considered unnecessary and even irritating. Some also fear that, as with previous A-1 Pictures, this could be a sign of production problems. Recently, Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini revealed on a podcast that his company pitched the manhwa “Solo Leveling” to Aniplex and was instrumental in getting the anime series into production.

Our team read the manhwa, liked the intellectual property, and so we actually presented it to one of our sister partners in Japan – Aniplex – and co-produced the series with them,” said Purini.

Synopsis:

The story takes place ten years ago, after the "Portal" connecting the real world to a world of monsters was opened. However, some ordinary people received the power to hunt the monsters from the portal. They are known as hunters. But not all hunters are strong. My name is Sung Jin-Woo, an E-rank hunter. I am someone who has to risk my life in the weakest dungeons, "The weakest in the world." But without any skills at my disposal, I barely make any money in low-level dungeons… At least until I find a hidden dungeon with the highest difficulty within Rank D! In the end, while accepting my death, I gained a new power.

The animation for the anime Solo Leveling is by A-1 Pictures, a well-known studio responsible for anime such as Sword Art Online, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, Boku dake ga Inai Machi Mashle, The Seven Deadly Sins, among many others.
