It appears that the Andrew Garfield era as Spider-Man is about to come to an end as Sony Pictures nears a deal with Marvel Studios, according to the website Mashable.

Sony is being pressured by Disney to license Spider-Man so that the character can be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the film Captain America: Civil War. Due to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 not being the success Sony hoped for, the studio has put the franchise on hold to reconsider its future with the character.

Actor Andrew Garfield, who plays the main character and is known for being a big fan of the character, has already expressed some dissatisfaction with the final result of the second film, criticizing the producers about the cuts in the final edit and the script in October of this year.

Garfield also failed to attend a dinner with Sony President Kaz Jirai and other company executives in July, further straining the actor's relationship with the team. His absence was seen as an affront by the executives.

Due to these facts and Marvel Studios' desire to restart the franchise from scratch, if the deal goes through, it's likely that Garfield will be out of the equation. Some hacked emails from the President of Sony's film division, Amy Pascal, suggest that the actor will be replaced, along with the entire cast, for a reboot that accommodates Marvel Studios' wishes.

It was also said that the script for the Civil War movie is already finished and that Spider-Man is not in it, but if Sony accepts the deal, Marvel will provide a cameo for the character.

It's important to remember that none of this is official, so consider everything as rumors for now.
