A pirate steals a treasure hidden in Bikini Bottom, guarded by a great hero, forcing SpongeBob and his friends to embark on a land-based quest to find it. The plot matches the tone adopted in the TV series: that of not giving any importance to logic. This will be the case for the second film in the series, whose trailer was released by the production company this Thursday.
The treasure is the last page of a pirate's magic book, which he needs to complete his plans. The guardian hero is none other than SpongeBob himself. Along with Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy, SpongeBob goes through various situations on land. The film has a different aesthetic from the first in the series. In the second production, the scenes with the characters on dry land are computer-generated animations. In the first film of the series, the entire movie was produced in the classic cartoon format.
Logic, of course, is set aside in this sequel. While in the first film Bob and Patrick were close to death from dehydration while out of the water, in this one they have no difficulty breathing the same air as humans.
The film will feature guitarist Slash and actor Antonio Banderas as the villainous pirate. It is scheduled for release in early 2015 in the United States.
