Studio Ghibli director hospitalized due to cardiac arrest

Hiromasa Yonebayashi , the director of several Studio Ghibli , was recently hospitalized after suffering a heart attack. He is now receiving medical treatment in Japan and appears to be slowly improving.

The information came from Hiromasa Yonebayashi himself on his Twitter profile. According to his message, he is still in the hospital and undergoing tests. So, thanks to the medical treatment he received, the director survived his heart attack and should recover soon.

 "Actually, I had a heart attack and am currently in the hospital... I was finally transferred to a general ward. Things are going well."

Yonebayashi originally began his career at Studio Ghibli in 1997, working on the animation of Princess Mononoke . He also assisted in the production of Spirited Away , Ponyo , and Howl's Moving Castle . As a director, he worked on Little People and When Marnie Was There . After leaving Studio Ghibli, he joined Studio Ponoc , where he directed Mary and the Witch's Flower and Modest Heroes .

Synopsis:

When Marnie Was There was Yonebayashi's final film at Studio Ghibli. The film tells the story of Anna, a shy and lonely young girl living with her adoptive parents in a coastal town in Japan. At 12, she struggles with feelings of isolation and insecurity, but everything changes when she meets the mysterious Marnie. Through their friendship, Anna begins to uncover hidden secrets about her own family and past, revealing an unexpected connection between her and Marnie.
